Blake Palmer

Blake Palmer

Strength & Conditioning Coach

Hometown: Northwood, Iowa

Blake has been the strength and conditioning coach for UMD Men’s Hockey for the past 7 seasons. Before his arrival in Duluth, he had spent the previous three years working in that same capacity with the United States Hockey League’s Waterloo Blackhawks. Palmer also oversees the strength and conditioning efforts for the Bulldog women’s hockey team. Blake won a National Championship with the UMD Bulldogs in the 2010-11 season. Throughout his 6 years he has helped many players go on to play professional hockey in the ECHL, AHL, NHL and also many Olympians from the women’s hockey team. While in Waterloo (where he doubled for two seasons as the team’s equipment manager), he helped over 50 athletes realize their dream of playing NCAA Division I hockey and saw nine get selected in the National Hockey League draft. He also worked for two years as a strength and conditioning coach for the XL Sports Acceleration Program (where he had the opportunity to train current San Jose Shark Joe Pavelski).  In addition, his resume also includes a stint as a graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach at the University of Northern Iowa. While at UNI, he trained and coached with one of the world’s foremost international weightlifting minds — former Chinese Olympic weightlifter Jianping Ma. A native of Northwood, Iowa, who now lives in Superior, Wisconsin, Palmer earned his Bachelor’s degree in exercise science (2006) and completed his course work for his Master’s degree in exercise physiology (2008) from the University of Northern Iowa (UNI). He and his wife, Lynn, live in Superior, Wisconsin.
